I've seen a screenshot of the Hyena you can get as a pet in nightfall.

Can anyone tell me when you first see these or which quest / area they appear in?

They are in Crystal Overlook.

Yea I saw one wandering about when I was in Torment somewhere. They look really nice.

Lair of the forgotten have Hyenas just outside to the north...
Pretty easy cap...

There are two near the entrance of Crystal Overlook. You can get there using a wurm from the Alkali Plains. They are pretty cute. They yip and laugh when they attack.

the Lair of forgotten is by far the easiest place, just north out of town, if you hug the left wall up to the shrine you are less likely to get the mandragor popup also.
